Port Elizabeth Discovery Tour ½ Day
This is a great way to get to know Port Elizabeth, which is rich in cultural history and has still in existence 7 different styles of architecture. The meeting point of Africa and the British 1820 Settlers. The clashing point of farmers and the Xhosa. See the hidden gems and get pointers to go and further explore this underrated city. We investigate the colonial heritage and the ghosts of the past, following the 1820 settlers footsteps, experience what it was like in post and pre apartheid years, hear the sad story of Steve Biko and the victorious one of the Mosque that still stands and also visit the smaller township close by. Another option is our City Circle Tour. We pick you up at your accommodation establishment and take you to a point of your choice within Port Elizabeth. We then pick you up later and take you onto to another point and then from there, back to your drop off point. Along the way you get a guided tour of the city.

Township Experience ½ Day
See the difference in lifestyles between a squatter camp and the more affluent areas and learn whether it is better to stay in a shack or a mansion. Have the various Reconstruction and Development Programs explained while also hearing about the history of the area which began in the 19th Century. Visit the Red Location Museum, meet the children, see local artists at work and just experience the township life around every corner. There is always a pleasant surprise and something new happening. The package includes pick up and drop off and guided tour. A must even if you have done other larger tours through townships. A real experience and getting to know the heartbeat of the Xhosa nation.

The Real City Tour
A comprehensive tour de force through Port Elizabeth showing all the significant sites in the cities history. It includes visits to areas that were previously inaccessible to tourists, but are now the pulsebeat of our emerging city. You’ll encounter the legendary hospitality at a community-run school where we stop for a township style tea. By taking this tour you directly help fund this school. We’ll also take you to view the astounding original work of local artists and meet them at their workshop gallery in an informal settlement. This tour is a must if you want a balanced view of South Africa’s history, what life was like in the apartheid era and the and how a new nation is coping and emerging. The price includes pick up and drop off at your hostel and snacks on the road. A truly cultural and African experience.

Shebeen Party Tour
Join us for our fun filled night time tour of the best local shebeens. Shebeens are the previously illegal drinking houses particular to South Africa and Ireland and where there’s a town
ship there’s a shebeen! The township version of “the local” is the vibrant heart of social life. We’ll take you to our pick of venues where music is the best of African, the vibe laid back and the drinks outrageously cheap.

Day 1 starts at 9 am takes us through the city of Port Elizabeth as we learn about the early Khoi and settler history, South End and the forced evictions of the apartheid era, Red location, the Townships and all the cultural history of the area. We drive through Jeffrey’s Bay and onto Hankey where we stop to visit the grave of Sarah Baartman, a Khoi woman who was taken from the African soil, degraded in Europe and her victorious final return to her roots. Lunch is in the quaint town of Patensie where we visit the most southern Baobab Tree. The afternoon sees us visiting an orange packing plant or a potato farm or some other similar experience. We then drive to our tented camp deep in the valley. While dinner is prepared we take off in 4X4 vehicles and climb the mountain to enjoy cocktails at the highest point. Dinner is served around the campfire and when the eyes start to droop you climb into your luxury tents with the sound of the river trickling past.

Day 2 is up early to the smell of bacon and eggs. Once our stomachs are full we are off to see the unique Kouga Dam, the profile of Queen Victoria, the Phillips water tunnel and then a stop over for lunch. Before we leave the beautiful valley we stop over to see the Tobacco Co-Op and then wind our way along the back roads to Loerie and the flower reserve arriving in Port Elizabeth around 4-30 pm. The price includes the pick up and drop off at your accommodation, entrance fees, four meals, drinks and snacks and one nights accommodation.
